Hello and Welcome
I thought I might take a moment to introduce myself and welcome you to my site.
You may have read my “About the Author” page, so you know the “put-that-on-paper-and-make-it-formal” me. Now let me tell you about the everyday me.
Much like every other woman I know, I typically have an average of about six projects floating around in my brain most of the time. In order to avoid a sense of overwhelm, I often turn to my dogs for some grounding.
My daily routine:
Mushroom coffee first thing in the morning, to give me mental clarity and a sustained energy level. (It’s real ground coffee – dark roast – infused with mushrooms. And I promise, you can’t even taste the mushrooms.) Toss the toy with Nina. I don’t really have a choice here. She brings me one of her three favorites: Square Bear, Brown Bear, or Chicken Man. I throw it, she catches it and brings it back. We do this for about twenty minutes. While I’m playing with Nina, Pinto is curled up next to me, snuggled into a blanket and Abbie is doing something fun with George. Oh . . . you don’t now George yet. He’s my husband of almost 40 years. He’s a dog trainer and keeps me abreast of all the best practices for raising healthy, happy dogs.
After the dogs are exhausted, they settle in for a morning nap and I can finally open my computer and get some work done. A little writing, a little retreat planning, answering a myriad of emails and text messages, and then I’m off to work out with a fitness coach, then teach a yoga class. I teach five classes each week at a local studio. After yoga, if I’m lucky, there will be time for a mountain bike ride. The trails around my house are pretty awesome.
Circling back to the dogs, all focus is on my border collies again. Next up is a trip to the park to let them run, or a long walk around the neighborhood.
For about two years now, Tuesday and Thursday nights have been dedicated to agility classes. If you are unfamiliar with agility – that’s the dog sport where dogs run through tunnels, over jumps, through weave poles. It’s sooooo much fun!!! Another one to two days a week are set aside for practicing agility.
Just recently we’ve enrolled both of our BCs in classes to become certified as Therapy Dogs, so that takes up another evening during the week. When I was younger, I was the proverbial soccer mom, chauffeuring my kids, then grandkids to soccer, baseball, basketball, karate. Now, at 73, I feel like a soccer mom all over again, but this time it’s with my dogs. Their
social calendar is my social calendar. Ya know?!??
As you’ve likely discovered by now, I have written a memoir about my dogs– one in particular. Miraculous things have happened. Our 13-year-old male Border Collie has come back to us in the body of a young female border collie. I know, I know, this is crazy, right?!??
Well, read my book, then let’s see what you think.
